HOW
TO GRIND V-8 OHV ENGINE CYLINDER HEADS WHERE INTAKE
MANIFOLD SERVES AS LIFTER VALLEY COVER
When resurfacing
modern OHV cylinder heads it is necessary to remove
material at "A" and "B", using
the formula for the correct angles. (See How
to Grind V-8 OHV Engine Heads)
After
these type cylinder heads are ground it will be
found that the center section of the intake manifold
strikes the top of the block "C" before
it contacts surface "B" of the cylinder
head. To correct this condition material must be
ground off the cylinder block at "C".
The
amount to be removed is determined in the following
manner. Let us assume .015 was removed from surface
"A". We multiply the amount by 1.71 to determine
the amount to be removed at "C".
Example:
.015 X
1.710 (Multiplier for Top
015 Manifold Surface "C")
105 015
.02565 Amount to be removed "C"
